It takes a lot of time and effort to create and maintain a website like this one. Granted I love doing this site, but it would be even nicer if I could somehow make some kind of profit off of my labor. I'm not expecting to get rich off this site but I would like to make enough money to equal at least a part-time job of working five hours a week.
Right now the financial climate among dot coms like this one is not good. For one thing, it's getting difficult to get anyone to pay for ad space on a site like this one. I know that other non-hardcore porn entertainment sites have already tried and failed to get people to pay a monthly subscription fee in order to view new content.
There is another method where I could charge something like a nickle for each of the latest multimedia clips that you view. (I would still keep the older clips free to view.) This idea would harken back to the days of the Nicklelodeon (and, no, I'm not talking about the cable channel) when people paid five cents to view the popular silent movies of the day. I think most people would be more comfortable with a pay-as-you-go plan than with paying a monthly subscription fee for a non-porn site. But—as of this writing—most credit card companies are not thrilled with people charging anything lower than one dollar. If the credit card companies ever change their attitude, I may explore that option in the future.
For the time being, I have found three ways that you can help this site out financially. If you like the content of this site and would like for me to provide new content on a more frequent basis in the future, I would encourage you to choose one of the options.
Option #1: Buy some twisted gear (such as t-shirts, mugs, and mouse pads) as well as some excess cast-offs from the personal collection from this site's creator from Twisted Unicorn's own online store.
Option #2: From time to time I may discuss books that I've read in my LiveJournal with a link to Barnes & Noble's site as well so you can purchase books that I recommend. When you buy a CD from Barnes & Noble through those links, this site will receive a referral fee from each sale. (By the way, you won't ever pay the full retail price at Barnes & Noble, which sells many CD's, books, and videos for at least 5%--or higher--off the retail price.)
Option #3: If you're not interested in buying stuff now but still want to help out financially, you can provide a tip to this site. (It's similar to tips you pay in restaurants, nightclubs, bars, and beauty parlors.) If you have a PayPal account, you can simply provide any amount of money that you feel comfortable in giving with your credit card. You can either pay some money every time (or every other time) you visit this site or you could pay a bigger sum once a year. (For example, you can either pay $1 once a month or pay $12 once a year.)
